Campaigning For The Heisman - Baker Mayfield

In Oklahoma, things are said and done a different way then they are in the northeast. Back in the rough and tumble days of the state, if you had a problem with someone, you settled it like gentlemen. You had a duel.

Baker Mayfield is a complete Oklahoma Gentleman quarterback, and he's probably the best too. His first duel was against the incumbent starter Trevor Knight before the 2015 season, as a Transfer student from Texas Tech. Mayfield had transfered out and sat for a full year due to eligibility restrictions, and he had a problem with Knight- He wanted that starting job. Knight fought him for it but couldn't hang on, and Mayfield took Oklahoma to the Final 4, before getting beat in a duel with Deshaun Watson and the Clemson Tigers.

This season, Mayfield has stuck to dueling with opposing QB's then teammates, and won some impressive battles. That 61-55 adventure over his alma mater Texas Tech, who views him as a traitor, saw him fire back over and over, while compiling 545 yards passing and 7 TD's.

Now sitting at the prime position of #8, hoping for a miracle week in the final week of college football to make a run at the Playoff, Mayfield is ready.

You have to consider what he has done up to this point. He leads America in passer efficiency (194.7) and passing yards per attempt (10.9), has compiled a 35-8 TD-INT ratio, plus 6 TD's on the ground. Can people agree that perhaps, Mayfield is highly qualified for the Heisman trophy? If Baker had gotten the chance to throw the ball more then he has playing on a run heavy team, we can all assume those numbers would be even higher. You have to remember that Baker has Semaje Perine and Joe Mixon on the team splitting carries.

If this were not the 2000's, Baker would be a sure fire Heisman winner. But this is 2016, and there are many great players in this country.
