THROWBACK THURSDAY - Dak Prescott - The Road to Glory is Endured by Hardships

Image
(From Vogel's 2015 SEC Preview) Maybe the origins of a champion aren't always rich and glory filled roads full of success and dreams fulfilled. In the case of Dak Prescott, the senior quarterback at Mississippi State, a Heisman hopeful and 2014 First Team All SEC player, the road has been full of sorrow, challenges and hardships.  Prescott was born on July 29th, 1993, the youngest son of Peggy and Nathaniel Prescott. Shortly after his birth, Peggy and Nate broke up, divorcing in a full blown mess leaving Peggy to raise three boys on her own in Haughton, Louisiana. She moved her family into a trailer park and supported them on her wages at a truck stop.  Peggy had a love for football, so it was no surprise when her boys went out to play it. Jace, Dak's older brother, went on to play for Northwestern State as an offensive lineman.  Dak, however, became a star quarterback at Haughton High, listed by Rivals as a three star QB prospect, yet was lightly recrui...

Opinion: Florida's Hope Lies in it's Wide Receivers

The Florida Gators are now 2 time defending SEC East Champions, and have been demolished by the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game for the past 2 years now as well. With  that being said, last season was a lucky one for the Gators. After loosing to the Volunteers early in the season, the favorites to win the East at the time, Florida battled the odds to comeback and clinch the East division in their 16-10 win over LSU after some help from South Carolina. It was a 9-4 season, with losses to the Volunteers, Arkansas, Florida State and Alabama in the Championship game. The incumbent starting quarterback, Luke Del Rio, competes with 3 other quarterbacks for the starting job this season, and he isn't the favorite to win. Feleipe Franks, a redshirt freshman and Florida's prized recruit in the class of 2016, is the favorite to win the starting job. Standing at 6'6" and almost 220 lbs, Franks has very nice size and deep ball accuracy to compliment his ver...

The Potential of Shea Patterson

Ole Miss currently faces some serious rule violation allegations from the NCAA, 21 of them in fact. From money-bribing players to recruiting issues, they are such terrible accusations that the Ole Miss athletic department decided to self impose a one year post season ban and give up 11 football scholarships over the next 3 years. Not one player has transfered out of Ole Miss because of these charges. Talk about loyalty to your program and to the Head Coach, Hugh Freeze. Last season for Ole Miss can be compared to rolling down a steep hill. You're rolling and tumbling down until you get to the point where your tumble is no longer controlled, but you are still rolling, and you can't stop. After a controlled tumble with close losses to Florida State and Alabama, Ole Miss fell out of control as they dropped 3 straight to Arkansas, LSU and Auburn, and then lost their starting quarterback, Chad Kelly, to a torn ACL. Enter Shea Patterson. Patterson was a redshirt freshman...

Is Jarrett Stidham the Next Big Thing at Auburn?

Anyone who knows me, and my interests in sports, knows that in my opinion, there is no better football conference with more flair, more dramatics and more entertainment then the SEC. It's unpredictability make it a challenge for analysts like myself to cover, predict and report as any given Saturday can change the state of a football program. Any SEC team can win on any field, and it is simply the best and the most competitive conference in College Football. Spring Games are the beginning of a new season in college football. We get our first looks at the new faces joining our teams, the faces replacing the old who are gone and moved on, and the next set of stars shine on the field for the first time.  The Auburn Spring Game this season really intrigued me. With several early enrollees and a new transfer quarterback in Jarrett Stidham from Baylor, a sophomore with a cannon for an arm, making a run at the starting job on Sean White, last season's starter, it was a Spr...

College Playoff Commitee's Top 25 Rankings 11 15 2016

Whoa whoa whoa whoa, what?!?! After a weekend of utter chaos, where the 2nd, 3rd and 4th ranked teams all took losses to teams that they shouldn't have, and the analysts all reported a shakeup in the top 4, we got... Musical Chairs? Well, almost. The latest top 25 rankings were a little bit disappointing for Louisville fans and anyone who wants to call the Big 12 or Pac 12 dominant, but there were quite some interesting revelations. FINAL 4 #1. Alabama Crimson Tide VS #4 Clemson Tigers With all of the close games Clemson has played to teams they should have destroyed (Ahem, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, TROY), I don't understand why Louisville can't be ranked ahead of Clemson. If you watch the Louisville/Clemson game, you will see a lot of iffy calls, rough cheap play from Clemson and a few other interesting things and, oh yes... That will be upcoming soon in an article. In otherwords, Clemson is 9-1, just lost to a Pittsburgh team who can't play defense, Watso...

LSU's Head Coaching Carousel

LSU fired Head Coach Les Miles along with Offensive Coordinator Cam Cameron after a close and difficult loss to Auburn in week 4. Defensive Line coach Ed Orgeron became the successor to the role and has since led LSU to a 4-1 record, their single loss being to #1 Alabama, a game that was hotly contested and scoreless until the 4th quarter. Now reports are circulating that an angry and upset Florida State Head Coach Jimbo Fisher, not Ed Orgeron, is the leading candidate for a head coaching vacancy where a well loved assistant, affectionately named "Coach O" by players and fans alike, is keeping LSU in the top 25. The anonymous reports also believe that LSU's Athletic Director, Joe Alleva, wants to hire Fisher, who will need a $5M buyout to get him from his contract at Florida State. Jimbo Fisher is a highly respected name in the college football industry. After serving on Nick Saban's 2003 National Title LSU team as the offensive Coordinator, Fisher jumped around a l...
