College Playoff Commitee's Top 25 Rankings 11 15 2016

Whoa whoa whoa whoa, what?!?!

After a weekend of utter chaos, where the 2nd, 3rd and 4th ranked teams all took losses to teams that they shouldn't have, and the analysts all reported a shakeup in the top 4, we got... Musical Chairs?

Well, almost. The latest top 25 rankings were a little bit disappointing for Louisville fans and anyone who wants to call the Big 12 or Pac 12 dominant, but there were quite some interesting revelations.

FINAL 4
#1. Alabama Crimson Tide VS #4 Clemson Tigers

With all of the close games Clemson has played to teams they should have destroyed (Ahem, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, TROY), I don't understand why Louisville can't be ranked ahead of Clemson. If you watch the Louisville/Clemson game, you will see a lot of iffy calls, rough cheap play from Clemson and a few other interesting things and, oh yes... That will be upcoming soon in an article. In otherwords, Clemson is 9-1, just lost to a Pittsburgh team who can't play defense, Watson threw 3 INT's to that very same secondary... and you want them to go play Alabama? Whoa, that's just not fair for anyone!

#2. Ohio State Buckeyes VS #3 Michigan Wolverines

This is just a preview for the game BEFORE the College Football Playoff. Ohio State and Michigan will square it off in their final regular season games, but it shows the committee's faith in Michigan. Personally, I think that loosing your starting QB for the rest of the year who was in the running for 2nd Team All Big 10 (Behind JT Barrett of Ohio State, of course) is a bigger blow then a lot of people give credit for. If Wilton Spaights were still in, I could justify this ranking. But I don't see Michigan pulling an Ohio State and winning it all with a 3rd string QB. Michigan just doesn't have that right now.

BIG 10 BIG in the Top 10
It's really not that often that you see 4 Big 10 teams in the Top 8. Did I mean to type "SEC"? Nope, I meant the Big 10! And that is justifiable! While I don't really like Michigan at 3 right now, Ohio State at 2 is fine, Wisconsin at 7 and Penn State at 8 shows the absolute dominance of the conference. And just a couple of weeks ago, Nebraska was up in there instead of Penn State. The Big 10 is coming back, folks, and might get a run going for "most competitive conference not named the SEC"!

Texas A&M at 25?
While I am a devout SEC fan and I believe that there is no conference in any level of football as competitive as the SEC (Yep, that includes you AFC), I don't understand A&M at 25. In all honesty, I didn't understand A&M at 9 last week either. Trevor Knight, the heart and soul of the offense is gone. The defense is struggling. They are lucky if they win another SEC game all year. Injuries have continued to take its toll late in the season on A&M and hopefully that doesn't cost Kevin Sumlin his job. However, when you have teams like Iowa and Pittsburgh that can completely be justified sitting in that spot, why does a dying Texas A&M team get it? I don't know, I might be eating my words at this time next week.

Case for LSU and USC to be Top 10
I'm not sure what Oklahoma has done to justify it's #9 ranking, nor do I know what Colorado is doing at #10. We have 2 teams that have played extremely well since changes happened after 2-2 starts to their seasons who really deserve to be in the Top 10. USC changed quarterbacks. They're 5-1 now since that happened, with a heck of a win in Seattle over 4th ranked Washington. LSU changed coaches. Lost to 2 now top 15 ranked teams (Wisconsin and Auburn) before doing so. They're 4-1 since doing that, with an awful close loss to #1 Alabama. Look, we need to really go deep and look at every team's performances, and figure this stuff out. USC and LSU are probably both at this point not going to loose another game. I'm not so sure about Oklahoma and Colorado.

In all honesty, we talk about what the committee chooses as if we hate it but please, let's face it. We don't want to go back to the BCS (Please, God, no!) as that was a disaster. Did anyone ever actually go by what that thing ranked? Was strength of schedule even a factor into the statistics they put together?

We should all be thankful for a few extra football games that give a couple more teams a shot at a national title and face the fact that yes, this system is a God send and as much as our current committee likes drama and hype, it's making college football something better now. Besides, we have soooooooo much more to talk about!
