HOW DO YOU LIKE ME NOW?!?!
The NFC East is Full of 2016 Surprises
"How do you like me now?!" screamed Redskins QB and Captain Kirk into the ear of his general manager, Scott, after destroying the Green Bay Packers on Primetime Sunday Night Football by a measly score of 42-24. What had he just done? Oh, fired a mere 30 passes for 371 yards and 3 scores, thus making one of his biggest nights in his career count in a truly great way.
It's hard to believe that at one time, Cousins was a 4th round draft pick, the second QB taken by the Redskins in the 2012 NFL Draft (After RG3 of course) and the apparent backup settling into a career of money being paid for time on the bench. However, it's clear to see that Kirk didn't want that.
Now, he is the charming Prince that has been long awaited by the Redskin faithful. With the 'Skins at a 6-3-1 record now, Washington is a clear cut contender for the NFC wild card spot, assuming that the Dallas Cowboys continue to roll.
Oh yeah, the Cowboys. Enough of the introduction, let's get into the main article.
Surprise #1- Dak Prescott
While the rest of the nation overlooked 'ole Dak after falling into the 4th round, Dak won the starting job in Dallas by pure chance. First with Tony still rehabbing, and then second-string QB Kellen Moore breaking his leg in training camp, Dak won the throne going into preseason but still had a lot to prove.
And Prove he did. Dak was on fire all throughout preseason, compiling unbelievable numbers in QB rating and looking more like a 1st round star then a man proving his worth. Then when Tony re-injured himself, the Cowboys had to pretend to be worried. Does anyone remember what old Jerry was over there saying? "I hope we can hold out til Tony gets back."
Now, Tony is back in uniform, only with a headset on instead of a helmet. He has watched as the Dak-led Cowboys have rambled onward into a 9-1 record, including the first 9 win streak Cowboys team since Romo did it in 2007. Wow! And as for Dak, he's still a good sport about it, picking up his unintentional litter on sidelines and keeping his head screwed on right. And so the Cowboys look Super Bowl bound... at least for now.
Surprise #2- Kirk Cousins
I don't think many people expected to see Kirk come out this year and play as well as he did last year, let alone play better. Kirk has been on absolute fire this season, throwing for 3091 yards and 17 TD's. And he still has 6 games left to play!
Kirk is a gun-slinger. He has gets his hands on fire and he becomes a problem to stop. He just threw for 458 yards in the tie against Cincinnati a few weeks ago, a Redskins record if I remember correctly, and he's on pace to break some Redskin single season records that he set last season. He is on a good run!
Now the Redskins need to survive these next few weeks on the road against Dallas, Arizona and Philadelphia. Once they can do that, we are in for an exciting few weeks of playoffs come January.
Surprise #3- Carson Wentz
The fact that Carson Wentz has been the Eagles starter since week one because of the Sam Bradford trade to Minnesota is a surprise. But when he came out so well prepared for the NFL, and not throwing an interception for so long, it became even more of a surprise. With the 5-5 Eagles making a run to compete for the NFC Wild Card with a rookie QB, they have been so impressive it's been surprising.
Wentz looks very promising in terms of his future in the NFL. He's passed for 2339 yards in 10 games this season, with an 11-7 TD-INT ratio and a 84.2 Passer Rating. So watch out, NFL, because next year, Wentz might be destroying you guys.
